Antiquarian Books

Mellors & Kirk’s expertise in this highly specialised field is underlined by the many spectacular books that we have handled, such as this copy of Saxton’s Atlas of England Wales from the library of W A Cadbury that sold for £42,000.

English Literature and History across four centuries and collectable categories, including Natural History, Travel, Sporting and Children’s Books, Scientific and Economics, Private Presses and Fine Bindings are regularly featured in our sales of antiquarian books.

Fine and rare examples of the Bible are also offered, as is the occasional object, for example the mourning ring of the Curate of Epworth who denied John Wesley his pulpit.  The owner was unaware of the historic importance of this little piece of the history of Methodism, which we sold to Epworth Rectory Museum, the former family home of the Wesleys.

Antiquarian Books are included in all Mellors & Kirk Sales, including our curated two-day monthly Antique & Collectors Sales.
