Decorative Arts

Art Nouveau and Art Deco is sold on a regular basis in specialist sales.  Although created over a short period in every medium and in many countries, it is surprising how it can harmonise when displayed together.  The light and spacious Auction House is a late Art Deco structure and is ideally suited for the exhibition of such material.

Wide ranging expertise is required because the field is an enormous one and particularly valuable objects can easily be overlooked.  An example of this is Lalique glass.  Lalique vases are not particularly rare, indeed some are quite common, however ‘Tourbillons’ is a particularly scarce and desirable shape of c1930.  This example, which was slightly chipped, still went for an astounding £15,000, attracting bids from as far afield as South Africa when it went under the hammer.
