'ILLUSTRATIONS OF THE ANNALS OF RAJPOOTANA'

'ILLUSTRATIONS OF THE ANNALS OF RAJPOOTANA'An large folio-sized album, so-titled on the upper board, containing approx 95 loose fine proof engravings by E Finden after 'Captain Waugh' and 'Major Denham', the plates published by John Murray and dated 1826, with wide margins (the leaves measure 44 x 30 cms). Engravings of landscapes, ethnic peoples and cultural antiquities/artefacts including weapons etc, relating to India's Rajputana/Rajasthan region. The engraved images are, in the main, in very good condition - several of the plates have varying degrees of damp-stain confined to the blank margin, a much smaller number of plates has damp-stain extending into the engraved area and approx half a dozen of these heavily so. Loosely held in an early 19th century folder of half-leather with ties, the upper board with a gilt red leather album title label. There is no indication of the source work for these plates - perhaps James Tod's "Annals and Antiquities of Rajas'than" (?) though there appears to be more plates here than were issued in that work alone. Sold as a collection of plates, not subject to return
