A GEORGE IV MAHOGANY, EBONY AND SYCAMORE GAMES TABLE, C1820 the sliding square top removable for backgammon, the sides with inlaid panels and reeded tablets, two fitted with drawers on reeded pillar and quadruple legs with brass castors, 73cm h; 50 x 50cmProvenance: Elizabeth Frances Oates, by whom given to [her god daughter] Jane Frances Bennet (1798-1873) of Rougham, Suffolk on her marriage to the Rev Samuel Hurry Alderson (1787-1863) in 1821 (according to the a.l.s., Bury St Edmunds Decr 3rd [1811] included with the lot) thence by descent to Mrs Alderson's grand-daughter, Ethel Tufnell of Wormington Hall, Essex (according to an a.l.s., Penrith, Cumberland, nd [1944 or 5] to the then owner Mrs Courtauld, also included with the lot).
