A SCOTTISH GEORGE IV SILVER MOUNTED EBONY TIPSTAFF the terminals engraved with crown, GR IV and thistle, the sliding ring inscribed WEST CALDER CONSTABLE, 14.7cm Were a constable to be obstructed in attempting to make an arrest, he would ceremonially slide the ring from one end of the tipstaff to the other, thereby indicating forcible interruption in the discharge of his duty.
