THOMAS FRYE (C1710-1762) PORTRAIT OF A LADY OF THE DORMER FAMILY bust length in a satin gown with jewels, feigned oval, oil on canvas, 75 x 61cm, 18th c carved and gilded frameProvenance: The Barons Dormer of Wing; with Historical Portraits, London 2003, where purchased by the present vendor.Literature: Historical Portraits Exhibition Catalogue, June 2001, No 11, illustrated.The Dormer family were prominent land owners between the 16th and 18th centuries, principally in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire, where they owned property in the parishes of West Wycombe, Thame, Newbottle, Wing, Rousham, Ascot, Long Crendon, Quainton and Great Milton. The present portrait probably descended in the family to the Barons Dormer of Warwickshire.
