AN IMPORTANT IRISH SILVER CEREMONIAL TROWEL FOR THE LAYING OF THE FOUNDATION STONE OF THE GEORGE IV ARCH AT HOLYHEAD, ANGLESEY very finely engraved by Charles Maguire, signed and inscribed Dublin, with the Arch and lighthouse, figures and shipping, the underside with armorials and inscribed "With this trowel at the request of the Committee of Management on Wednesday 7th of August 1822 Holland Griffith of Carreglwyd Esquire laid the Foundation Stone of the Triumphal Memorial on Holyhead Pier in honor of the most gracious visit of His Majesty George the Fourth to the Principality of Wales on Friday the 7th day of August 1821/Thos Harrison Esq of Chester Architect, Mr James Sparrow Secretary", Hourglass pattern handle, blade 21cm l, by James Le Bass, also marked for Edward Twycross, Dublin 1822Provenance: Holland Griffith (1756-1839) thence by descent.
