A RARE DAVENPORT CABINET CUP, C1820-25 of empire shape, finely painted with a panel of four children and richly gilt, 7.5cm h, red printed mark and painter's tally markLockett & Godden (Davenport 1989, p222) draw a distinction between cups of this shape and size which they describe as a "show piece", such as the example in the Victoria & Albert Museum, or the slightly taller more rounded form which was used for some of the factory's most costly services.
