ROYAL. A VICTORIAN GOLD AND WHITE ENAMEL MOURNING LOCKET the front with royal crown and scrolling foliage, the underside of the lid engraved HRH Princess Sophia Matilda obit 29 Novr 1844, 1.9cm diam, on a gold necklet, 11.5gA great-granddaughter of King George II and niece of George III, Princess Sophia was the daughter of Prince William Henry, Duke of Gloucester and Edinburgh and his wife Maria Duchess of Gloucester, nee Walpole. She died a spinster at the Ranger's House, Blackheath on the date referred to on the locket and was interred in St George's Chapel, Windsor.
