‡†EDWARD BAWDEN, RA (1903-1989) BRIGHTON PIER linocut in colour on wove from the first edition, signed by the artist in pencil, dated 1956 and inscribed Brighton Pier, 55.5 x 147.5cmProvenance: Dr Eric Benjamin Stauss (1894-1961) the eminent psychiatrist of 45 Wimpole Street, London, by whom given to the family of the present vendor.E B Strauss enjoyed the confidence and trust of some of the most remarkable figures of pre and post war Britain. These included Graham Greene, Evelyn Waugh and Ian Fleming. In a letter to Strauss of 5 January 1955 Fleming informs the doctor that "A perfectly horrible man' [Drax] whose appearance in Fleming's forthcoming thriller 'Moonraker' resulted from his having borrowed Strauss' book Men of Genius (see The Man with the Golden Typewriter: Ian Fleming's James Bond Letters, 2015).
