ENGLISH SCHOOL, C1805 LIEUT COL SIR GEORGE CHARLES BRAITHWAITE BOUGHTON, BT in uniform, ivory, oval, 7.5 x 6cm, in papier mâché frame with matted gilt brass surround and acorn hangerSir George Charles Braithwaite was born at Point Pleasant, London in 1762. He married in June 1801 Eliza Davis natural daughter of Sir Edward Boughton, Bt of Poston Court, Herefordshire. In August 1798 he took the surname and arms of Boughton. He was promoted major general on the 20th October 1805 and served on the staff in Ceylon in 1807. He died, without issue, in March 1809.
