AN EXCEPTIONAL WORLD WAR ONE DCM GROUP OF FOUR Distinguished Conduct Medal, 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal, 240638 SJT J FARRINGTON 1/5 L N LANC R-T F [2334 PTE J FARRINGTON L N LAN R on Star, 2334 SJT J FARRINGTON N LAND R on pair], a silver and enamel watch fob shield engraved 5th BN the Loyal Regiment, hallmarked Birmingham 1920 and documents relating to the life, service and death of 13113916 USAF Sgt Thomas Morton (born Bolton Lancashire 26 April 1921 - died Myrtle Beach South Carolina 30 January 1944 including telegrams, official notices, letters of condolence, photograph and three memorial scrolls following the loss of his aircraft in a practice bombing mission off the coast of South Carolina.DCM: London Gazette, 17 September 1917. The citation for the DCM reads: For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during a raid on enemy trenches. He led his men with the utmost dash and when his party was fired on from a concrete dug-out he rushed to the entrance, bayoneted two of the enemy and bombed four who were inside, killing them all. He displayed great gallantry and presence of mind at a critical moment.
