THE ORDERS AND MEDAL OF SIR GORDON HOBDAY, KB Knight Bachelor's Breast Badge and Neck Badge, silver gilt and engraved by Garrard & Co Ltd, Birmingham 1972 and 1977 respectively, cases of issue, Order of St John Knight of Grace Star and Neck Badge, case of issue and Defence Medal, with a corresponding set of miniature medals, his Grant of Arms and Crest by Letters Patent, 2 March 1984, both seals attached, framed, original case and Letters Patent appointing him Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, 9 February 1983, scarlet wax Great Seal of the Realm attached, original caseProvenance: Estate of Sir Gordon Hobday (1916-2015).Sir Gordon Hobday was a highly distinguished pharmaceutical chemist who as a young man had worked on developing Penicillin under Sir Alexander Fleming and later led the team that developed Ibruprofen at Boots of which he became Chairman. He was the fourth Chancellor of the University of Nottingham (his alma mater) and Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire from 1983 to 1991.
