ENGLISH PROFILIST, C1840 SILHOUETTE OF THE REVEREND DAWSON WILLIAM TURNER headmaster of the Royal Institution School Liverpool, full length in robes, cut paper and gilt on paper with grey wash, 27.5 x 19.5cm, old inscription on the backboard 1847 (Aged 49 [sic]) Height 59½ [inches]A philanthropist, historian and writer on education, Dawson William Turner (1815-1885) was the son of Dawson Turner, FRS (1775-1858) and his wife Mary Turner nee Palgrave, of Norfolk (1774-1850). Dawson Turner was a botanist and partner in Gurney & Turner, the Yarmouth Bank.
