A RARE SHEFFIELD PLATE POWDER FLASK FOR A PISTOL, C1795 with twisted silver wire seam and fluted nozzle, 14cm Crosskey fig 490.Possibly made at Soho, since Birmingham was the location of the principal gunmakers of the period, or perhaps by one of the Sheffield firms. The Sheffield Assay Office Plate Books record only one firm presenting silver powder flasks for hallmarking, Morton & Co in 1795. Morton would also have manufactured examples in Sheffield Plate.
